I expect that next week she will turn up with some other ART approved game – possibly a series of random statements about ringing that have to be sorted on to large pieces of paper titled always/sometimes/never (no doubt green/yellow/red paper will be supplied for authenticity) except that all the vowels will be mysteriously missing and we shall have to guess what they say. It was suggested that she be made to wear the Smurf hat (a totally different story) and have to sit in the corner in disgrace. There are quite a few teachers with qualified status amongst us and we would not have made such a rookie error. We did try but there were some mutinous mutterings and some comments on the suitability of the supplier of the dominoes to call herself a teacher. Dominoes are the thing to keep us interested and focused.Įxcept that the dominoes were impossible, because the teacher had failed to grasp the essence of the game – dominoes have 2 halves, each half of which can be matched to another domino. Usually we wilt and pine in those moments between sitting down, re-dressing ourselves in hat/gloves/scarf and then divesting ourselves of the same hat/gloves/scarf before ringing again. This afternoon at practice a teacher had brought along some ringing related dominoes, to give us something to do as we waited for our turn. However, it would appear that to an ART teacher the game of dominoes is a complex and challenging affair. I regularly play dominoes with 2 and 3 year olds and they have no problem in following the rules.
